Book Club Invite!

Monday, January 4, 2010

You are cordially invited to join
and become a part of the Slow Readers Book Club!

As you might've guessed (if only by the name and by yesterday's promise of a big announcement) it's not your run-of-the-mill book club. It's instead a wonderfully inspired idea by the Slow Movement effort... a goal to rebel against the rush of a world that wills us to be quicker-faster with a very conscious attempt to really slow down and appreciate and connect with what's around us... Isn't that a sort of delicious goal, especially when mixed with reading?

The first book for the club will be Half Broke Horses by Jeannette Walls. A magnificent, true-life novel based on her no-nonsense, resourceful, hard working, and spectacularly compelling grandmother. We hope to read, discuss as a group (via email) and ultimately write about the book on Thursday, March 4th (two months from now).

So, are you in?!

Hoping you'll say yes... and if so, please be sure to visit and register at the OFFICIAL club website *HERE*! You definitely don't need a blog to join, but if you do have a blog, and would like a button, help yourself to one *HERE*.

Looking forward to sharing on the read with you!

I love the idea Gabbi, but typically only read music-related biogs and books..

Oh, I'm so joining!! :) Hopefully the slowness will give me time to get it from the library: I requested it and I'm 63rd on the list!! Yikes. Luckily they have 21 copies, so hopefully one of those will make its way to me soon.

And for official business, my email is rebecca.stephens @ gmail.com

I am all over this! I love reading, but life happens and I have never felt like I've had enough time to finish for regularly paced book clubs.

i totally loved glass castle. i love the idea of a slow readers club but i'm so incapable of reading slow!

oh how I LOVED The Glass Castle!! Gabbi, I really think this is a beautiful idea, and as I told Christina, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to be part of this. I am just so so so busy and I would feel so horribly guilty if I was not able to keep up ...yes, I know, even with "slow readers" ;) but I do very much so look forward to keeping up with your updates!!

This is a great idea! I love reading but sadly find I have less time to indulge lately. I still continue madly buying books with hopes of actually being able to read them one day :)

Such a great idea. I just joined yesterday and I can't wait to start reading. Just what I need this year--to slow down a bit. :)

Count me in1!! I want to participate! I was JUST thinking about doing a book club thing! I'm excited!! :)

Sorry I've had less of a presence the last few weeks! I started a new job, and the hours are crazy. I wish I could blog at work-I'm a little addicted to blogs now. But- My hours aren't so bad as of today, so I'll be able to go back and see what I missed. :)
OH! AND-I don't remember if I told u this, but the Bittersweet jewelry ladies wanted to read the scene from my book where I had a character wearing their Vamp Ring. The sent me a 30 dollars off voucher! LOVIN it! :)
