Julie Doucet...

Has an out of the ordinary website. I know that clicking on links can sometimes be a pain, but (if you've never visited before) click *HERE* and then sort of of move your mouse around... won't be sorry!

'Born in 1965 in Montréal, Julie Doucet (shown at the age of two in the photo to the left) began Fine Arts studies, first at the CÉGEP du Vieux Montréal, later at the Université du Québec à Montréal, where she completed a degree in printing arts. During her studies she took interest into drawing comics, and eventually devoted herself completely to that funny artform. 'Dirty Plotte' (plotte is French-Canadian slang for the female genitals) began life as a photocopied fanzine. In it Doucet would document in French and in English her day to day life, her dreams, angsts, fantasies...The series was first published in 1991 by Drawn & Quarterly, in the comic book form...' (excerpts from her official biography)

'Dirty Plotte was one of the vanguard comic-book publications of the last two decades. A visceral but occasionally — very occasionally — tender examination of Doucet’s life in her twenties, Plotte was a huge influence on a generation of artists, both inside and outside the world of comics.' -From The Walrus

Shown below, Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition of 'Little Women' with an illustrated cover by Julie Doucet (I want!):

Sources: Majority of photos, with the exception of Little Women book cover are borrowed directly from Julie's official site. For a listing on more of her publications please visit *HERE*.

I just watched that video! Oh my god. It was pretty amazing. Karin somehow manages to look magnificent in her almost-zombie(?)-like state. The video reminded me of the Road, for some reason, aah.

Have you got a last.fm account? I love getting new music through there and I love that they link you to all the free downloads!

Haha, no I get it, I get it. My friends constantly tell me I have shite musical taste because I don't listen to Beyonce or The Jonas Brothers. And I adore last.fm because iTunes recently arbitrarily deleted about 3/4ths of my library..so I've been relying on it a lot. I don't have a whole lot on it because I only made the account about a month ago.

Added you. :)

When I saw the name Julie Doucet in your title, it was familiar but I couldn't immediately work out why. Dirty Plotte! Of course! I hadn't read any of those comics for years! I didn't know anything else about JD apart from those Dirty Plotte comics, so thanks for all the info and links :)
