Le Chouchou de la Semaine

Tuesday, May 5, 2009

Today, el Cinco de Mayo, is a holiday in Mexico. The celebration of the Mexican army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. Bloody and violent holiday right? Here in Los Angeles, where it's estimated that 48.5% of the total population are of Hispanic or Latino descent, we use it as celebration of Mexican heritage and pride. So in keeping with the day I present la bonita María Félix, an icon of the golden era of Mexican Cinema, as the Darling of the Week...

Clockwise: Beaded Hoop Earrings, Mykonos Dress, Prohibition Bangle and Greco Sandals.

What a lovely looking thing she is! It certainly was the golden age of cinema, wasn't it? I love, love that bangle and the hooped earrings too. I'll have to have a look at that film this evening when I get home from work! I really enjoy learning about the Spanish/Mexican culture Gabbi - thank you!

Wow - I've never heard of her, but what star quality. Isn't there a Harold Lloyd film where he goes to Mexico?

I had never heard of her myself. She's incredibly beautiful. I've been interested in learning more about the golden age of Mexican cinema. There's so much too about Spnaish/Mexican culture, etc. that I want to find out about.

You're teaching me things left and right! :) Lovely photos - I'd never heard of her! I also, sadly, didn't really know the history of Cinco de Mayo... I'm sure I've learned about it before, but I'm awful about remembering things. Thank you for the reminder!

~ Thank you dear Sam, I’m always a little nervous about writing posts on Mexican subjects. I worry that it’ll be only interesting to me :) I appreciate your comment. I hope you liked the video… *besos*

~ I googled but couldn’t find one dear Mondo? If found please share… xo

~ That’s so great Keith, like I told Sam, I’m never sure if Spanish and Mexican films are interesting to anyone else but me. I will definitely be sharing more of my favorites in the future. Thank you!

~ Thank you dear Miriam! xxox

~ That’s really nice, thank you dear CC! *bises*

~ Happy you liked the photos, thank you Rebecca! Honestly I have a hard time remembering the details of Cinco de Mayo too… at this point it’s more of an excuse to dress up kids, have a tequila based drink and eat Mexican food maybe? :)

~ Great way to describe the dress, thank you Elle! xo

~ Her and Rocio Durcal were Channel 34 favorites dear Laura! Y la viejita del ‘Chocolate Abuelita’… :) Hope your weekend is going well! *besos*

~ Next year we get you tacos dear Henry… but you’re going to have to share your peanut butter and jelly sandwich. :)

~ Thank you dear Diana, it was nice seeing it as a favorite! Hope you’re having a lovely weekend. xo

~ She was! Thank you Andrea. Your Cinco de Mayo Chilaquiles post was yummy. :)
