Martes Trece

Tuesday, July 13, 2010

In most Spanish speaking countries, instead of Friday, Tuesday the 13th is considered a bad luck day. Searching for reasons you'll get a little on the Fall of Constantinople and the Tower of Babel (both on a Tuesday?). There's also something about the word Martes (Tuesday in Spanish) originating from Mars the God of the war. Day governed by the red planet. Sort of creepy, but glad to have gotten through the day without any mishaps. So superstitious.

Cléo de 5 à 7 (1962), warned not to wear anything new on a Tuesday...

Too fabulous for words! Those images are gorgeous - especially the last one!! Maybe that's not the right thing to say! But: thank you Gabbi - I had no idea that Tuesday the 13th was the bad day in Spanish speaking countries. Glad to hear yours was OK!

Perfect images! Tuesday the 13th is considered unlucky here as well, not Friday. Glad to read you managed to get through it in one piece. I'm not superstitious, so I barely even noticed! xoxo

i am superstitious of some things, but really don't want to admit it. sometimes superstitions seems so ridiculous, but..........

So glad I'm not the only one with a thing for eerie photos girls... also, I know what you mean about superstitions being ridiculous Drollgirl! Think I just like'em since they sort of go hand-in-hand with my love of all things creepy and also it helps feed my obsessive compulsive disorders... ♥

Y en España también dicen que 'en martes, ni te cases ni te embarques' ('on tuesday, don't get married nor get in a boat'). Adoro el nº 13!!

Eeek! Scary! Tuesday definitely seems creepier than Friday (although Thursday seems creepiest). I never knew the Tower of Babel happened on a Tuesday... figures.

I love those photos. They fit this post perfectly. I didn't know the info about Tuesday the 13th in the East. I've always been fascinated by the East, especially during the Byzantine era.

I love the black cat looking in the mirror. I'm not superstitious but I think my catholic grandma brought it in me (you know, demons, spirits, all that crazy stuff)
