(On the Subject of Favorites)

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004) is my most loved of Wes Anderson films (to date). A fan of all his work but this one for some reason calls out to me a little more. (My boyfriend) Bill Murray is the star, the soundtrack is brilliant. And also for nostalgic reasons, my sister and I grew up on Jacques Cousteau. If I could join any make-believe team it would be this one. Even as an unpaid intern…

Noah and the Whale are also fans (video reference):

‘I'll order you a red cap and a Speedo’

I worship directors, and Wes Anderson is the first in the library. (Cause Anderson starts with an A, next is the Coen Bros, followed by Gilliam) Of his five films this is my favorite, followed so closely by the Tennebaums. Hope the Fantastic Mr. Fox rules.

Oh yes!! This movie is charming and "out there" at the same time, isn't it!! I love Anderson's attention to detail! Have you seen your boyfriend in Jim Jarmush's "Broken Flowers"? If not, I strongly urge you to see it - I think you'd love it! I love your BM inspired faves too - you put your posts together so nicely Gabbi - you are a total inspiration to me!! XXX

What a fun post! I think this is also my favorite Wes Anderson movie - so gorgeous and with amazing music (though most of his movies could be described that way). I had no idea people made Team Zissou shoes! That's great. :)

I've ALWAYS wanted to see that!! But-I was afraid it could be like the bomb-"The Royal Tennenbaums". BUT-If u say it's good-I should go ahead and watch it! I'm so glad I read this! :)

I love this movie, too, Gabbi!
When it came out, there was a website that allowed you to print out your own Team Zissou card and you can add your own photo with a red cap. so cool!
i totally agree with drollgirl on this!

That movie kind of really annoyed me, but at the same time I actually liked it a lot. I love the sock monkey :)

I've never seen Life Aquatic Gabbi, but love the soundtrack and those latin Bowie tunes! - I'm so behind with TV and film (have you seen your other half's performance in The Rutles - Fab).

By the way - Camera Obscura were great although a few of us thoughtThe Blockheads perhaps should have been the headliners

PS On the subject of Submarines, I bumped into Peter Eden (the guy who discovered Donovan) he pointed out the singer in a band we were watching had been one of the animators in Yellow Submarine

I grew up on Jacques Cousteau too! I wanted to be him when I was little. :)

For some reason this post leaves me speechless, I just hate seeing crabs like that. They are painted so badly when I thought they looked so great. Don't worry about your boyfriend not seeing it Gabbi, so long as everyone else does I expect that would give you some sense of justice (you know re the film). I take it those hats are your kind of uniform, you all wear the same. Nice.

Wes Anderson is brilliantly funny! This soundtrack was amazing!

I must now say bye to you all - I know it has been funny for you but I have been very upset at finding out all this stuff if I'm honest (wouldn't anyone be)and losing some (I really thought) good friends. It's been a shocker (really it has). You're still going to carry on. So in the real world just don't say hi.(If you see any messages that you think are from me and they make you raving mad try finding out first for a start if it is me and before setting up your little hate blogs give me a ring if it bothers you that much). Bye
