From a short and spontaneous road trip my brother and I took last week...

Photo trickery is courtesy of a Tilt-Shift generator which can be found *HERE*, not as good as the real thing but still fun. The view runs down Russian Hill from the top of Lombard Street, famous for being very crooked, possibly the crookedest in America?

I love this old postcard; it’s the corner of the highly trafficked Powell and Market Street. The Woolworth's has changed, I think it might be an H&M now? But the lovely architecture is still very much the same, a few aesthetic differences I guess but it still has an old fashioned and historic feel.

Cable car rotating, I was amazed that it’s still turned and pushed on the tracks by hand…

View of Alcatraz Island:

Marquard’s Little Cigar Store, on the corner of Powell & O’Farrell:

View from the inside of a Cable car around midnight, I was a little tipsy at the time and had the most fantastic feeling of being connected with the past!

Annabella's pretty window:

Sears Fine Food breakfast (since 1938), the last morning there:

My brother said this reminded him of 'Full House'... :)

What an incredible travelogue - it's given me a real buzz to visit.. and I love your photography Gabbi, are you on Flickr?

A thousand thank yous Gabbi! It's always been a huge dream of mine to go to San Fran....the gorgeous photos you took and the postcards are pure evocative heaven as is the film!! I am amazed that the tram lines are still worked manually! In Melbourne they aren't. Several retro movies I adore are set in San Francisco like Dirty Harry, Escape from Alcatraz (?spelling) and Bullet. I also heard there were seals by the pier...did you happen to see them? Have a lovely weekend! XX

These pics are incredible. I love how you used the old postcard:) I went to San Fransisco once and thought it was just amazing...the coffee shops, old book stores galore. Sigh.

Oh and thanks for the comment on my shoes:) I might be wishing for a sturdy pair of sensibles at some point, but that day I just wasn't going to buy one.

A spontaneous road trip? Just the sound of it is wonderful! The most spontaneous thing my brother would do with me is go out to lunch, haha. How long were you away for? Looks like you guys had lots of fun.

I love the tilt-shift trickery. I think I'm going to play with it now!

It seems like such a great visit. I absolutely LOVE that picture that you wrote "we stayed somewhere around here" and such; it is amazing.

~ Thank you Eve… it’s a great city. Very small but with tons to see…♥

~ You’d really like it Mondo… I’m listening to Podrophenia right now. The Starwars theme opening is awesome, proper build up for something fantastic I’d say! It’s very cool to hear your voice. I rarely go on myspace anymore but I’m off to find you now. Hope you’ll add me on Flickr too, I’m there more often nowadays. Also, please feel free to self promote with me anytime, I’m a fan of all things Mondo. :)

~ I love ‘Bullet’ Sam! Isn’t it funny that such tough films are set there? I did visit the pier and I took a video, I’m going to put it up on my Vimeo account probably today. They’re adorable, such amazing animals aren’t they? Merdogs! Thank you so much and hope you’re having a wonderful weekend…xo♥

~ Thank you Kelley Anne, I love your blog! I very much liked your philosophy on the shoes. I’m never again buying ‘sensible’ ones!

~ Thank you so much Christina! ♥♥♥ Hope you’re having an awesome weekend… :)

~ Thank you Anna! I found out on Friday that I’d been approved for a week’s vacation that I’d asked for back in January and since my little brother is currently unemployed he was free to take a trip also. We only stayed for a few days because of the 4th of July weekend; we had to get back for a family thing… but it was fun. Wish I could go on road trips more often. I really would love to try real tilt-shift photography but the program is a fun cheat. Hope you like it and that you’re having a lovely weekend!

~ Thank you dearest CC! I love it also… though very honestly not as much as I ♥ NY. I’m hoping to visit there soon too.xxo♥

~ Thank you very much Carlotta!

~ Merci dear Fashion Moment!♥xo

~ I hear you Rebecca! So many places I’d love to visit... I just need to win the lottery so I can quit my job and travel travel travel :)

~ Thank you Velo! ♥

~ It is very foggy isn’t it? But it truly adds to the beauty of the city… hope you’re having a wonderful weekend dearest Lenore!xo♥

~ Thank you dearest CH! ♥ I tagged it up… :) Hope you’re having an awesome weekend!

A lovely selection of images! I so wish I could visit San Francisco. What a fun adventure that would be. One day maybe... :)

Thanks for the comment! I think a lot of the bad things that reviewers said about Wolverine were probably true...but sometimes bad movies can turn a corner and become silly or even hillarious (i.e. Zardoz:).

~ It was a lot of fun drollgirl, you’re from the bay area! Very neat… I love your hometown. There are tons of Los Angeles touristy things that I’ve never done so I know what you mean. I was just being nosey on the shirt thing… maybe Kors recalled it? :) Thank you so much and hope you’re having a great weekend also. ♥xxo

~ Thank you dear Chrisy… we had fun. I love my little brother and I know soon we’ll both be settled into our own lives completely and without time for things like that. It was definitely special for me.♥

~ Thank you Natalie!!xxxoxo♥♥

~ Definitely recommend it Harriet… it’s a small city but there’s a lot to see and do and everyone is very friendly and there seems to be an abundance of tourists, I love observing fellow tourists and making friends with fellow travelers. Thank you and hope you’re having a lovely weekend!

~ Yeah, I'm sure the Wolverine movie wasn’t even bad… just a lot of comic geeks nitpicking… I say this only because I’m sort of a comic geek myself. :) Thank you Kelley and hope you’re having a great weekend! ♥

~ Thank you Michelle!!♥♥♥

~ Thank you Miriam! I really have to find out how that style of architecture first began there in San Francisco… the entire city is full of those lovely window boxes. I ♥ weekends so, can’t believe it’s Sunday already either :) Hope you had a wonderful one also…xo♥

~ You’re so awesome, thank you dearest CC! Wishing you a fabulous new week... xo♥xo

Thank you for sharing such lovely photos! I took a quiz that said I should move to San Francisco. I've never been, but I think I would really like it.

P.S. That video brought back memories. I used to drive a trolley tour of Anchorage. They weren't real cable cars, of course, but it was fun all the same. = )

The tiltshift generator makes me want to watch old eps of Thomas the Tank Engine. I wish I had spent more time in San Fran.

these photos and the editing you did look awesome. I'm gonna check out that site later... hope it's not just for iphones... it did say at the bottom there's a version that supports drag and drop...looks so fun. Reminds me of Mr. Roger's land of make believe.

~ It’s a great city Andrea… I would love to visit Anchorage too! Was the trolley you drove controlled by levers also? It looks like a hard job, but I can definitely see how it’s fun. The drivers in San Francisco were really friendly and looked like they enjoyed their work.

~ Thank you Keith! Weekend was nice… flew by :) Hope you have a great new week!

~ Thank you so much Anna!!!♥♥♥ I love awards and getting one from you is a huge honor. Hope you’re having a good Monday (despite it being a Monday). I’m getting started on passing it on now…♥xo

~ It’s a cool city isn’t it Ana? I’m off to watch Thomas on youtube now… inspired by your comment :) Hope you have a great new week! ♥♥

~ I loved his little town Yvonne! It was my favorite part of his show… I liked the generator but I really wish I knew how to do that with a camera. I’m such a fan of miniatures.

~ Thank you dear Fashion Personality!!♥♥♥

Can you recommend any brands of oxfords or a place to buy them? I've been scouring thrift stores and other shops for a good pair of them, but no luck. Thanks!

beauty comma said...

You've taken some really great shots here: I love the cigar store, the cable car (looks like you'll have to get tipsy more often?), Annabella's window and the harbour.

Kelley Anne said...

Thanks for the link! I recently ordered from Zappos and everything went so well...and it was nice that I didn't have to pay shipping. I have to admit, I was drooling a bit when I saw all those oxfords:) I'm looking for something with a low to mid heel (and there were several enticing options on that page)...my husband and I are going to Italy for two weeks in September and I would LOVE to find some to wear while we're there:)
